Enjoying Who We Are At Christmas

November 15, 2009

So I’ve been sort of obsessed with Christmas lately. I’ve gotten to the point that, sometime I think last week, I was stalking around the Christmas section of Wal-Mart with a terrified Dave, saying things like, “I’m sick of disappointing holidays. This Christmas is going to be the best Christmas ever because I’m going to make it that way, so just you get ready!” and “If anyone doesn’t have a happy Christmas, I’ll shoot them!”

I’ve already decided on my Christmas colour scheme, bought gift tags and a cookie recipe booklet and holiday cookie cutters. I’ve not bought my Christmas cards only because I’m torn about what design to buy. I’ve decided on gift boxes and cookie tins. I even have a tacky sweater to wear when I distribute gifts.

The writer happily acknowledges that Christmas is exactly what we make of it. Of course the economy is bad. Yes, many jobs have been lost. Absolutely more job losses are on the way. And it DOES stink. But, the holiday season really isn’t about how much we can buy or spend. The holiday season, if you think back, is more of the feelings we have when we see the colored lights, the fireplace going at night, watching holiday shows, and taking the time out of our schedules to be families and friends and to be loved, and give love in return.

Merry Christmas!
